Cookie policy
Summary
This website does not set any cookies. It stores one small item in your browser, and only if you use the theme switch: your choice of light or dark appearance. No consent banner is shown because none is legally required.
The one item we store
Name: “laypen-theme”. Type: local storage (not a cookie). Set by: this website (first party). Value: the word “light” or “dark”. Purpose: to show the site in the appearance you chose on your next visit.
The item is created only when you use the theme switch. If you never use it, nothing is stored.
Unlike a cookie, the item is not sent to our server with your page requests. It stays in your browser, where a script on this site reads it to apply the theme. It contains no identifier, is the same for every visitor who makes the same choice, and cannot be used to recognise or track you. It has no expiry date and remains until you delete it.
Why no consent is needed
European Union. Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) applies to any information stored on your device, including local storage. It requires consent unless the storage is strictly necessary to provide a service that you have explicitly requested. Remembering a display preference that you set yourself falls within that exemption. The same exemption applies in the United Kingdom under regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
Türkiye. The Guideline on Cookie Practices (Çerez Uygulamaları Hakkında Rehber) of the Personal Data Protection Authority applies the same criterion: explicit consent is not required for cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary for a service explicitly requested by the user, and it treats user-interface preferences as an example. In addition, the stored value is not personal data.
Because the item holds no personal data and is never transmitted to us, storing it does not involve any processing of your personal data by us.
What we do not use
No analytics or statistics cookies, no advertising or retargeting, no social-media plugins, no embedded third-party content, no fonts or scripts loaded from other servers, no tracking pixels and no device fingerprinting. No third party stores or reads anything in your browser through this website.
How to remove it
You can delete the saved theme at any time by clearing site data for this website in your browser settings. The site will then follow its default appearance until you use the switch again. Blocking local storage in your browser does not stop the site from working; the theme choice is simply not remembered.
Other information
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs when you visit the site. These do not involve storing anything on your device and are described in the Privacy policy.
Changes
If we ever add cookies or similar technologies, we will update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before they are used.
